Many artist and writers were very influenced by Europe when it came to themes and stories. But during the 1800's a group of artist and writers began creating art that would glorify the Native American life or tell the story of a famous traveler that helped discover and explore America. The first group of artists who separated there art from the "standard" for all art and writing were known as the "Hudson River School". Many Stories written during this time were written about American topics such as the discovery of America, wars, and Native Americans. These works of arts usually were made to honor a certain historical moment. For example, the picture below was made during this time. This picture is about Manifest Destiny. Many other great works of art like this were made during the American Art and Literature Movement.
